Name a race and Anna van der Breggen’s won it. Giro d’Italia (four times, with four individual stage wins); Ronde van Vlaanderen; Strade Bianche; Liège-Bastogne-Liège Femmes (twice); La Flèche Wallonne Féminine (seven times); Amstel Gold. Three Olympic medals (one gold and two bronze) and nine world championship medals (three gold and two silver). Only seven riders (two men and five women) have won world championships in both the time trial and road race disciplines, and van der Breggen is one of only two to win both in the same year.

And van der Breggen did this in about two-thirds of a career. She retired at the end of the 2021 season, at the age of 31, in order to take a non-racing role as a DS with her trade team, SD Worx.

Now she’s coming back.
