How to Fix Pro Cycling's Kit Blend Problem
Every cycling publication runs a post on fashion this week. Here's mine.
We’re close enough to the start of the 2024 pro cycling season that we know what almost everyone is going to be wearing on the road. Of the 18 men’s World Tour teams, 17 have released or at least teased their new kits. The one exception is EF Education-EasyPost, the sport’s most fashion-conscious team. We know they’re be wearing pink, we just don’t know yet what the specific design is going to look like.
No, wait, in between when I wrote this post and when was set to run, EF revealed its 2024 kit, and sure enough, it’s pink. But it’s got pretty yellow accents on it. Very cheerful, very breakfast citrus. I’m a fan.
Between this post on Cycling News and this post on Velo you should be able to get a sense of all the top-tier men’s teams’ looks for this season. There are some pleasant surprises. Foremost among them: I think that Bora-Hansgrohe’s new green-with-yellow-sleeve look is fantastic.
Bora has generally been a middling team in terms of style, with a variety of green, black, and white kits over the years. But that flash of yellow on the shoulder reminds me of the one-sleeve accent Nike tried with a couple college football teams in the mid-2000s. I think I’m the only person who liked them, because I associate them with some awesome Marcus Vick-led Virginia Tech teams.
